Within the heart of every human being is a burning desire to give, to share, to care, to love. We are not innately selfish creatures – to a large degree it is our society which conditions us to be preoccupied with out own wants and desires. Consumerism depends upon it.
But this preoccupation with ourselves doesn’t fulfil our heart – it actually makes us feel more empty. The reason for this is because our heart’s very purpose is to give. Giving is one of the most joyful and fulfilling ways to live life, because as we give we receive. When we share from the kindness and generosity in our heart, we receive a profoundly beautiful spiritual feeling in return, which is way more precious than all the money in the world. We feel more complete and whole, and we just want to give more and more often.
And I’m not talking about money. I’m talking about being generous with your kindness, with your words, with your time… Showing people you care about them, taking plenty of time to listen to people, and get to know them.
If we would just prioritise the people in our lives, life would instantly become so much richer and more rewarding. If we would just value other people above all other things, we would understand how precious the human heart is, and how starved most people’s hearts are of genuine loving attention.
We can feel like we are not that important, because no-one is really interested in who we are on the inside. People will be friendly and sociable, but who takes the time to really get to know you and listen to you? Who is genuinely interested in who you are?
Be one of those people for the other people in your life, because whatever you give you will receive and life will become so much richer, not only for you but for all the people connected to you. This is how we grow together.
So be a person who takes the time to care about others. Communicate more genuinely and warmly with people. Show them that they are important to you, even if they are a stranger. The love in your heart is very much needed in this world, so spread it everywhere ☀️
