It is the ego which opposes the divine will. It thinks it knows what is best for us but because the ego is a selfish entity, what it wants for us is based on what will make it feel more secure and more in control, or what will bring us more personal pleasure, not what will make us more free or more deeply fulfilled. Nothing the ego chooses can bring us deep fulfilment.

We all need freedom from the grip of the ego, so that we can allow our heart to be more active in our life. Ultimately we have to learn to make decisions without the ego, which means making more considerate decisions which we can see are the wisest decisions for everyone in the given circumstances. The ego only thinks of what will bring us greater pleasure or greater security. The heart is concerned with what will bring greater harmony, healing and joy to our current environment for the benefit of all. Our heart will always know what is the best course of action to take, and listening to it benefits us just as much as it benefits others. The heart offers a win-win situation every time.

When we hear the voice of the ego telling us what is best, we have to remember that it can only create limitation through its choices, because it is an entity of limitation. When we put the ego’s wishes aside and listen to our heart, we will always make the wisest decisions, and we will reap the rewards of greater joy, togetherness, communion and harmony in whatever situation we may find ourselves.

Listen to the generous, giving and compassionate voice of your heart. It will lead you along an illuminated path, into a wondrous reality of love, trust, gratitude and selflessness. And this is your purpose, to become a selfless being, and in doing so become a vessel for love to work through. The more the ego fades away, the more you become aware that you were designed to live in service to love, helping others and caring about others, as we are all meant to do.

This is where your fulfilment awaits you, in service to love. There is no need to delay yourself any further with your self-preoccupation. Ask yourself now: what can you do to help lighten the burden of another person(s) today? Then ask yourself the same question tomorrow, and the day after, and so on. This is the fast path to liberation from the ego and union with your heart. And it is so very simple…
