Are You Over-Stimulated?

When was the last time you went one week without your favourite stimulant (e.g. coffee, chocolate, sugar etc)? Can you remember how your body and mind felt without this substance being in your system?

We get addicted to stimulants because they alter out body’s energy field to a higher speed, a greater intensity, and obviously it feels good!

But because the human body and mind don’t belong on that frequency, we cannot remain there. The stimulant lifts us up, but when the rocket fuel runs out, gravity brings us back down to the ground. This is why stimulants are addictive, because we want to stay ‘high’, but it’s unsustainable without the stimulant.

And we should be very glad that gravity keeps bringing us back down to Earth, because only here you can experience sustainable joy, sustainable peace, sustainable happiness, sustainable fulfilment. Stimulants interfere with your ability to feel the profound natural pleasures of just being alive on earth, and this is a great shame because the joys of life are deep.

Admittedly, our modern world doesn’t make it easy for us to experience them. On top of the busyness of our fast-paced lives, we have to deal with a constant stream of negativity via the media. All of this stresses us out, makes us tired, and brings us down. So it’s not surprising that we rely on stimulants to lift us up again.

So we ourselves have to interrupt the cycle, by not reaching for that stimulant when we most feel compelled to. Only you know what your favourite stimulant is, so can you imagine stopping for a week? How much of a hold does it have over you? Because if you feel uneasy about stopping for a week, you can be sure that that stimulant had become a form of emotional support for you. You rely on having it available, because either it comforts you, or lifts you into a brighter space, or it makes you feel alive in your body.

We actually do need to feel these things. We do need to feel comforted, we do need to feel brighter, we do need to feel alive in our bodies. Very much so.

And so it’s vital that we remember how to access these feelings naturally without the use of external stimulants, and the ONLY SUSTAINABLE WAY to do so is through leading a healthy, balanced and empowered life. There is no other way.

Good feelings are naturally part of life on earth, if you live in a balanced and healthy way. If your body is well nourished and well exercised, you will feel a healthy glow inside of yourself that cannot be obtained in other way. This is what we call ‘well-being’ – the natural goodness of life felt throughout our body, and also in our heart in the form or happiness, peace and joy.

There are so many rewards that life wants to offer us… friendship, companionship, love, laughter, fun… Peace, rest, relaxation, stillness and bliss. These are all much more likely to be experienced on a regular basis when you take good care of yourself in every way – physically, emotionally and mentally.

It’s not just our body that needs to be nourished. For the benefit of our heart and mind we need to be in a nourishing environment that doesn’t stress us out or feel too harsh. Ultimately, we always benefit more from being in a natural environment, with clean air, green surroundings and more natural sounds to listen to. If you don’t live in such an environment, make it your priority every day to get into nature and spend as much time there as possible. It will help you remain connected to that space inside, which is nourished by the harmony of nature.

And what about the company you keep? What effect is that having on you? Do your friends make you want to be a better person? or do they encourage you to remain on a level where you don’t belong? A level of gossip perhaps, of speaking negativity about others, or complaining about life and the world in general?

Are the people you spend time with interested in becoming freer, happier, kinder, more positive and generous-spirited? If not, seek out company that you find inspires you or supports you to become a better person. We all need encouragement and support on our journey to self-realisation – which essentially is a journey back to the goodness and beauty of our heart.
