A Bright Hope

It is easy to become negative and cynical in this world, especially when we see all the injustice, deceit and cruelty that human beings are capable of.

But within you is the most beautiful light – the light that we all want to see manifest in the world at large – and your only spiritual responsibility is to allow that light to shine through you. Nothing else is as important to your destiny as this.

So don’t get distracted by events in the outside world, because the outer world cannot bring you the inner transformation that your soul is crying out for. That only comes when we make the inner light our prime focus, and we allow it to change us from the inside.

That light gives us a clear direction to move in, and thus we become more hopeful and positive, because we know we are heading towards the joy, beauty and freedom that our heart longs for.

As we become more focused on this light, our personality changes. We become a more loving and forgiving person. Less afraid and more trusting. We become more compassionate and caring towards others, even if they exhibit what we perceive as ‘undesirable’ characteristics.

It is important to remember that everyone – without exception – is in need of the light, and when we realise that people are suffering because of this, we can longer be angry with them, or judgemental towards them.

The inner transformation that we all need occurs in our heart, as we allow the voice of love to be the voice we listen to.

Your heart is like a small child…

So imagine that you constantly speak this child in a negative, fearful, angry or critical voice. Listening to your voice will completely demoralise that child. It will feel defeated, miserable and exasperated.

However, if you speak to that child with a loving voice – a voice of encouragement, kindness, understanding, love and support – then that child will feel confident, empowered, uplifted and at peace with who they are. They will feel equipped and empowered to deal with the challenges of life. They will have an “I can do it” mentality, rather than “I cannot do it”.

Which voice to do you speak to yourself with? Which voice do you listen to within yourself? The negative and defeatist voice of the mind? Or the reassuring, trusting and confident voice of your heart? Whichever voice you listen to most will determine how you feel inside.

The negative voice of our mind will try to convince us that it is the ‘real’ voice – the voice of reason, the voice of facts and truth. But your heart’s voice is the voice of potential, the voice of the future, the voice of what we can be and what we can achieve. Don’t allow your mind to override that voice, because our mind is a bully. It wants to demoralise us, and make us feel hopeless. It wants us to feel angry and hostile. Anything but peace, love and joy.

So ultimately we have to decide which reality we wish to inhabit – the mind’s reality or the heart’s reality – and then spend our time listening to the appropriate voice, Because both are always talking to us.

So how do you recognise the voice of your heart? Well, it is not aggressive or forceful in any way. And it is a voice of hope; it does not tell you anything negative. It always reminds you of the potential. And it is a forgiving voice, that is free from anger and condemnation. It wants to reassure you, encourage you, empower you and embolden you.

So spend some time today identifying this voice within you. Whenever possible, sit quietly for just a couple of minutes and listen to the voices inside of you. Ask for the heart to speak to you.

There’s a strong likelihood that you will feel inclined to overlook or ignore what your heart says, because we have been trained to trust negative messages and not positive ones. We have been conditioned for cynicism – to believe the negative voices over the positive voices.

We must change this, and start trusting the positive voice that comes from out heart. It will bring the reassurance we need, the sense of hope and optimism we need, the feeling of love and self-worth we need. It will tell you that are beautiful, and that you are lovable. Are you ready to hear this? Are you ready to have hope and optimism for the future?

Because whichever voice you listen to is merely a self-fulfilling prophecy. The voice which you believe will lead you towards the destination that it offers.

I strongly recommend listening to the voice of your heart. It will take you exactly where you want to go.
