Stop Thinking, Start Feeling

We all yearn for a deeper feeling of fulfilment, a deeper feeling of safety and security, a deeper sense of connection and joy…

And the good news is that these feelings are always available to us. We just have to realise that they are not found on the surface of life, or on the surface of our self. We have to take our attention somewhere deeper.

Most of us are addicted to superficial satisfaction, and this is why we remain on the treadmill on temporary enjoyment, relying on positive thoughts to make us feel good, or tasty food, or entertainment, or material achievements, and even relationships…

But the deeper feelings of fulfilment, peace and joy are discovered as we turn our attention inward and consciously decide to move beyond the layer of fear that surrounds our heart.

We all have this protective layer of fear to some degree, and we use it to guard our heart from pain.

However, we have gotten used to keeping this guard up all of the time, and so we cannot feel what our heart wants us to feel. We are always in defensive mode throughout our daily life, and thus we don’t perceive this amazing world through the lens of our heart, as we are meant to. Instead, we continue to perceive it through the lens of our mind, because we feel safer in its logical and knowable realm.

We may feel safer, but all the time something inside of us is growing cold. We remain disconnected from our true feelings, and our heart grows weaker in the process. It loses its passion and starts to wither like a flower in desperate need of water.

So our most urgent mission is to come down from our safe mental tower, and instead of just thinking about life we need to remember how to feel, sense and fully experience its depth.

Our heart feels the deeper dimensions of reality, and this is where our attention belongs – not on the surface. This is how we feel connected to divine truth, which is love. This is how we feel truly safe, because love protects us in ways we cannot comprehend. This is how we plug in to the deep joy of life, because it springs up from within our heart and washes over us. Our attention just has to be in the right place.

Every day we need to help ourselves become less heady and more grounded, remembering to connect to our body, so it can communicate with us more clearly.

If you feel stuck in your head, stop sitting down and thinking but instead get up, go outside and be active. Sense the energy of nature, and listen carefully to its sounds, rather than to your thoughts. Explore natural places in your area. Climb a hill, go for a bike ride. Do anything that reminds your body of the joy of being active and feeling stronger.

This cannot happen sitting on your sofa, or staring at a screen. Your body is longing to be used and your heart longs to be activated, energised and strenghtened.

And if you are really stuck in your mind and need something to bring you back down to earth, back into your body, back to feeling the power and beauty of life…. then try this:
