Love doesn’t always come to us in the way we want it to…
Sometimes love comes with a torch, to help us see things that are holding us back, keeping us in pain, limiting our freedom..
So when that light comes into your life, in whatever loving form it takes, be sure you don’t close the door on it just because you have become more familiar with the shadows indoors.
Joy is always the ultimate destination that the light wants to lead us in, so to resist looking at something and push away the light that is making us see it is deeply counterproductive. It is to push away our deepest happiness and fulfilment, which is found by welcoming the light, to every small chamber of our being.
Fear can totally destroy the possibility of our dreams coming true, if we allow it to motivate our choices.
The two fears… fear of the transformation which light brings, and the fear of the pain that loving someone or something can bring…
..these two fears make us retreat backwards out of the warm sunshine, back indoors where it is not so bright and not so warm. Our mind tells us it is safer here, and we usually believe it.
But we don’t have to believe it. We don’t have to obey that voice which persuades us close down, shrink and retreat from the light.
If you watch fear when it arises, you’ll see that it usually tells us a story or gives us a picture of everything going wrong. It literally uses your own imagination against you. How you imagine things could be will either lead you forwards with enthusiasm, trust and gratitude, or it will make you turn around and run backwards in fear, to what is familiar but not nourishing. A place devoid of true joy.
So be aware of the negative pictures and stories it tells you when a possibiity for growth is present. When love calls us into its transformative flame…
Its such a big cliché, but its so appropriate and true: Everything your heart has ever longed will be found on the other side of fear.
Love and happiness await you. They always have and always will. And they will not force you to open your door and step outside into the warming rays of the Sun.
When you have built up enough courage and are ready to take that leap of faith, they will catch you gently as you land, and wrap their loving arms around you.
And they will tell you that you are home. That you are truly safe here, and there is no reason to fear… ever, ever again. Trust in this with your whole heart.
